As I work through some of the calls I am getting for estimates on repairing houses infested with Chinese drywall, I am learning some new things everyday. For example I received one call from a young couple who are living in New Jersey and found a home on the internet in North Port, Florida. Fortunately the information they received from the real estate agent fully disclosed that it had Chinese drywall in it and it was a foreclosure. So before they contracted to buy it they called me after seeing my You Tube video and my website "Chinese Drywall Florida.org". They wanted to understand what they may be buying into and how difficult it would be to fix this home. Having built some houses three to four years ago in that area, I explained to them the cheap price companred to other areas was due to the problem the house had, and that the area had an abundance of foreclosed houses any many more in the foreclosure process which lowers all prices for that area. Many of them are vacant and some are two thirds finished and have been sitting deteriorating for four years or more.
The reason I know this is because about four years ago a bank contacted me and asked me to give them prices on about twenty five new homes to finsihed construction on, that they had given loans out on that were left unfinished. I walked every one of them and gave them an estimated cost to complete them with the exact specifications they had on file. What I had determined is the people that took out the loans and "walked away" from them had decided that they could not sell them when they were finished and were going to have to put their only money into them, so they decided to let the banks have them. There were many what I call "amateurs" the entered the real estate business to make some quick money flipping houses. They had watched these programs on cable TV and got caught up in the hoopla of the people making big profits flipping houses. Any
