The IOA was a wonderful event held at the fairgrounds in Ventura, California. More than two hundred alpacas participated.
As usual, the IAO has acknowledged the efforts of breeders here in the United States very well. Two new aspects of the show were introduced this year. The first was the ability to award multiple first place winners. So, if two animals in a class are seen to possess champion qualities then the judges were able to award multiple first-place ribbons to those animals.
Also a newly recognized Processing Length Championship was introduced. This is the first time it has been offered in any show. IAO recognized those breeders who chose for both health and environmental reasons to shear their Suris every year. Because of this, the show had a huge turnout of previously shorn Suris that would otherwise have been absent.
