Logan Iron-Wolf Tyler -- 31-Mar-2013 01:49:52 pm -- relative collision location is completely different on the two vehicles. notice no top shot of the collision? it was omitted for that exact reason.
this is not a fair trial in terms of "what's tougher on impact".
:(
Joe Calandro -- 06-Jan-2013 05:06:34 pm -- GM has warehouse's ful of cars like that.
Jorden Swiridowsky -- 28-Sep-2012 01:42:13 am -- Coming from being a Body Man for years, The Bel Air would have cold rolled steel not this pot metal. and it always would not have had crush zones, thus, if it was a REALY Bel Air, there would have been very very very little damage to it, it would have crushed the other car.
Ken Martens -- 28-Sep-2012 12:21:25 am -- Lets go get a car from the museum... and demolish that!
Dennis Mwaniki -- 23-Sep-2012 04:55:31 pm -- just look at the way that dummy in the Bel Air hits its head on impact...i bet nobody can survive that.jeez....scary, and the way I love classic cars.
Ahmad Al-Najjar -- 26-Aug-2012 11:24:19 pm -- that is a fake old car! an old car would never end up like that in a crash! real old cars are made with metal! real metal! not like all those new plastic cars they make nowadays. I have an old car and accidentally crashed in to my garage once and nothing happened to my car! the wall actually cracked! true classic power :D that's wussup BD now that I'm reading what I wrote I realize I was kinda pissed off :P alzibda CLASSICS RULE!
Devin Kreie -- 23-Aug-2012 01:41:10 pm -- They tweaked the older car. The Chevrolet bel airs bodies were made from harder metal. It should not have crumpled this bad. Although it is not as safe as the newer vehicle because in the old all the force is transferred to you whereas the newer car the force is absorbed in the crumple zone.
TirumalasettyKirankumar -- 30-Jun-2012 07:01:34 am -- crash test
Roger D. Smith -- 27-Jun-2012 05:13:52 pm -- Older is not always better!
Ante Storić -- 22-Jun-2012 01:04:50 pm -- It is a complete lie because the older a lot tougher than this of their patent!
Mike Pappalardo -- 21-Jun-2012 10:16:05 pm -- well that is wat hapends.when u drive fast.
Mark Fowler -- 18-Jun-2012 10:02:58 pm -- What a waste of such a beautiful classic.
Richard Sterenborg -- 05-May-2012 06:17:14 am -- leuk
I was thinking the same thing, this person is an idiot. I should invite him to a real crash test with a real 1957 Chevy and see what his stupid reaction would be to that....
This video is done with a fabricated car, my dad owns a lot of oldies all Chevys from 1950- 1960 and when somebody T-Boned his 57 Chevy Belair with a 2009 Chevy Impala there was minimal damage to the 57 and the whole front end was gone and the Impala was totaled. So whoever did this video, nice try and I hope you crash into a real Chevy Belair so that you can post real "after" pictures of it ;)
I guess it's a good thing that they don't make them like they use to. BTW, anyone else cry a little when they totaled that Impala? It should be a sin to purposely wreck such a beautiful car.
when I was a kid my family had a 59 Impala and we drove cross country with it. thank God we never had an accident--and there wer no seat belts in those days
I got a 66 Olds Delta 88 at 18'6" and 4600 lbs, 700 of that is the engine. i once saw a 76 ford granada destroy a 95 buick skylark, and the granada drove away!
OMG!!!! how could they??? I got nauseated watching that. i dont care if the newer was safer, the ole beasty will be in heaven, that other POS is going straight to hell!!!!
Newer cars will ALWAYS be safer than the tanks of yesteryear. I love old cars but I laugh when people say they feel safer in them. That crash test dummy was just force fed an extra helping of dashboard with a side of steering wheel. And it IS a fair comparison. They had no idea about crumple zones to soften the impact or stiffened passenger compartments back in the 50's. Newer cars crumple in an impact, they are designed to do that so the CAR takes more of the force of the crash instead of your body.
Well, no crap... Did we really need a "test" to prove what is already common knowledge?! Are they trying to convince classic car owners to drive late-model cars?? ..'cause I would never be seen driving an '09 anything--I don't care if it's safer, the Bel-Air outperforms the Malibu in every way.. This crash test was pointless and only wasted 10s of thousands of dollars and a classic vehicle that we can never get back..
Reminds me of the Ev1 incident.
A 100% original 1959 4 door sedan vehicle does not get that kind of damage, specially to a new model vehicle like that malibu!... How ever u still have better chance to survive in the 2009 then the 1959!.. Obiously!....
Not a Fair comparison, that 59 is suffering from metal fatige to some degree as are all old cars, to some degree. The frame is not as rigid as when new. Show me the test agaist a newer full size like a caprice .
Most impressive is a steering wheel of 59 Chevy hitting you right in face - making your suffering shorter, I guess. On the other hand a Oscar in Chevy 09 hitting a front airbag but that doesnt stop his head hitting the wheel itself. Does anybody know what was the crash test cars speed on inpact ?
