People : Shaan STEVENS - (Shaan STEVENS)
Mr Shaan Stevens is of Ngati Kahungunu and Ngati Raukawa descent. Shaan is the Executive Manager of the Hui Taumata Trust and he has been involved in a number of Maori economic initiatives, including work on Maori leadership and governance for the Hui Taumata.
As an executive director on the Wellington based strategic consultancy firm, Guinness Gallagher, Shaan has the responsibility for the firm's Asia Pacific region and is involved with a number of the firm's international projects. He has recently completed telecommunication reform projects in Cambodia and Mongolia for the Asian Development Bank, World Bank and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. A former recipient of a TRADENZ export award for international consultancy services he performed in Sarawak on the island of Borneo, Shaan has also been involved in a number of significant energy, forestry and telecommunication projects in New Zealand, including project managing Fletcher Challenge's successful acquisition of the Forestry Corporation from the Crown, one of the largest transactions of its time.
A former Associate Commissioner with the New Zealand Commerce Commission, Shaan has presided over a number of significant telecommunication and infrastructure regulatory decisions.
Shaan is both a chartered accountant and practising barrister. He is a director on a number of private companies, and holds a number of public roles, including as Chairman of Wellington Free Ambulance, a Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation trustee, the former Pro‐Chancellor and current council member of Victoria University, former director of Hutt Valley Health and the Forest Research Institute, current trustee for the New Zealand Maori Rugby League, member of FORST's external advisory group and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Asia External Reference Group.
